ARCHIVED - Free entry to Cartagena attractions on September 24
This year the Romans and Carthaginians fiestas are not following the habitual pattern of activities due to the Covid situation
The Romans and Carthaginians festivities in Cartagena are scheduled to take place between September 17 and 24, albeit without the battle, grand parade and encampment which are normally the elements most enjoyed by foreign visitors.
The free theatrical representations which take place in the port and other areas around the city have all been moved into the Parque Torres and tickets sold to allow just limited capacity entry; as the representations are all in Spanish, this reduces the attraction for foreign visitors, and tickets have principally been snapped up by the members of the federation themselves, who still wish to maintain some structure around the fiestas. The representations are all being shown online during the week.
The troops and legions are still gathering socially in the city centre although they have no formal encampment and have each selected a bar as their headquarters for the fiestas, for which reason there will still be costumed members wandering around in the city centre enjoying the social activities within their normal groups.
The fairground and market stalls are located alongside the football stadium as normal, but without the encampment.
Most Cartagena visitor attractions are free of charge to tribe or legion members wearing costume during the week, but on Friday September 24, the historical visitor attractions (Teatro Romano, Museo del Foro Romano Molinete, la Casa de la Fortuna, el Augusteum, la Muralla Púnica, Fuerte de Navidad, Castillo de la Concepción and Refugios de la Guerra Civil) are open free of charge to all members of the public during their normal opening hours. The tourist bus, boat and lift are not included in the offer.

NB: September 24 is a local fiesta in Cartagena, so is a local holiday and many businesses in the municipality will be closed.
