5 of the best beach-side campsites in Cadiz
The Andalucía municipality offers family-friendly coastal campsites with all mod cons
Cadiz is one of the most popular provinces in all of Andalucía for camping holidays, and with more than a dozen top-class sites ranging from beach-side escapes to mountain getaways, it’s not difficult to see why.
If sleeping to the sound of lapping waves and waking to the sight of crystal blue waters is your idea of heaven, we’ve rounded up some of the most popular coastal campsites to suit all ages and interests.
1. Torre de la Peña in Tarifa
Opened in 1968 next to El Chozo Restaurant, this campsite is a long-standing favourite located right on the main beaches of Tarifa. This is the ideal destination for lovers of water sports, with windsurfing, kitesurfing and diving all on offer. The campsite itself even offers board storage.
Visitors can choose to camp on the beach or in the mountains and caravans and bungalows are also available. Its services include: a swimming pool, supermarket, laundry, chemical toilet, bathrooms adapted for babies, free Wi-Fi and courier service.
Pets are prohibited in August in the camping area and in the bungalows all year round.
2. Las Dunas de San Antón in El Puerto
This first-class campsite is situated right on the beachfront and just a 15-minute walk from the city centre and main shopping areas. It features separate camping and bungalow areas with swimming pools for adults and children, as well as an on-site supermarket and restaurant.
Standing on a 79.60-hectare plot, the campsite is located within the limits of the Dunas de San Antón Park, which is included in the Network of Protected Natural Areas of Andalusia.
3. Playa Aguadulce in Rota
This beachfront campsite is located at kilometre 6.5 of the A-491 between Rota and Costaballena. A family favourite, Playa Aguadulce features 65 square metre plots for tents and caravans, separated by hedges for privacy, along with electricity connection, as well as bungalows that can sleep up to five people.
This campsite also has a restaurant, a playground, a supermarket and a football pitch.
4. Bahía de la Plata in Zahara
Another beachside property, the Bahía de la Plata campsite is just one kilometre from Zahara on the Atlanterra dual carriageway. This family-friendly spot does not allow pets.
Campsites range between 25 and 50 square metres and other accommodation options include bungalows and rustic studios. Services include Wi-Fi, children’s area, a bar-restaurant, supermarket and laundry service.
5. Faro de Trafalgar in Caños de Meca
This campsite has direct Access to the beach and is located just 500 metres from Los Caños with breathtaking views of the La Breña Natural Park and Marismas de Barbate. The lodgings are comprised of some 200 plots, on both grass and turf, sheltered by natural and artificial shade.
This is another haven for water lovers, complete with underwater fishing, kitesurfing, surfing, paddle surfing, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing and sailing. It is also the ideal base for hiking excursions, cycling and horseback riding.
Pets are allowed but must be leashed at all times.
