ARCHIVED - 900 kilos of marihuana found in Valencia packed and ready for transport to the Netherlands
The huge haul of drugs were found in a warehouse in Alaquas along with nearly 5,000 marihuna plants
Officers from the Policía Nacional have detained two men of Dutch origin in the municipality of Alaquas, located in the province of Valencia, for growing and preparing nearly a ton of marihuana for transportation to the Netherlands.
The investigation was launched at the beginning of April, when the police force became aware of unusual activity at an industrial warehouse in Alaquas, as there was an excessive use of electricity and large air conditioning units, as well as a lack of activity. This made officers suspicious that there could be a large marihuana plantation inside the warehouse.
After carrying out surveillance on the building, the officers noticed the same two men coming and going, sometimes spending several hours at a time inside the warehouse, including overnight stays.
They also noticed that they appeared to be loading a large truck, which led to a raid on the factory, where the criminals were caught by surprise while loading industrial sized bin bags full of dried marihuana buds into a vehicle.
In total, the police found 900 kilos of marihuana, which was dried and ready to be sold in the Netherlands, as well as 4,654 plants in different stages of growth.
The industrial warehouse, of around 1,200 square metres, had been divided into 5 different growing areas and had 200 electrical transformers with lamps to maintain optimum conditions to grow the marihuana plants.
The two drug traffickers have also been charged with attacking an officer, as they assaulted the police officers during a pursuit, after initially trying to escape.
