Almería Airport bridge to be demolished this November
It is part of the work to bring high-speed rail to the city
As part of the ongoing work to bury the train tracks underground on their approach to Almería city and make ready for the arrival of the high-speed AVE railway service, the next domino to fall will be the bridge for cars and pedestrians that leads from the city to Almería airport, commonly known as the ‘Puente del Aeropuerto’ or Airport Bridge.
The bridge is due to be demolished some time in November, according to official sources.
The sub-delegate of the Government in Almería, José María Martín, highlighted the “very important pace” of the ongoing urban integration works. He explained that preparations are being made for the demolition, which will take place “throughout the month of November” near Almería football stadium and which he says will be a key milestone in the city’s transformation.
Martín emphasised the importance of this particular road, the N-344, noting that “it is a very important communication road, as everyone knows, especially those who usually pass through this area”.
He also reassured the public that measures are in place to prevent traffic disruptions during the demolition process.
“Before the demolition, it will be necessary to carry out some actions to avoid traffic delays,” he said, ensuring that “the detours are carried out properly”.
To maintain smooth traffic flow, alternative routes will be made available. One new road will connect via Calle Los Minerales with Vega de Acá, while the Níjar-Los Molinos road, where the first bridge has already been demolished, will be reopened with a new structure to resume traffic in that area.
Looking ahead, Martín confirmed that the demolition of the La Goleta underpass and, eventually, the bridge on Avenida del Mediterráneo, will follow in 2025 as part of the ongoing works. These developments will ensure that the AVE high-speed train can arrive at the newly constructed station.
In his remarks, Martín reiterated that “the planned dates are being met and according to the established schedule” and added that these changes represent a “reorganisation of the urban fabric of Almería, with all that this entails”.
He concluded by saying, “This will mean a before and after in the city of Almería.”
