Andalucía weekly weather forecast August 17-20: Storms and rain signal a change after weeks of intense heat
Mountain storms on Monday give way to cloud and rain mid-week as a cooler westerly flow finally brings some relief to the region
After weeks of relentless heat and largely settled skies, across Andalucía, this week finally brings a change of character. The first couple of days continue the familiar pattern of sunshine and storm risk in the mountains, but by Wednesday a shift arrives from the west, bringing cloud, some light rain and a welcome drop in temperatures inland, particularly noticeable for the afternoon highs.Monday August 17
Andalucía temperatures, Monday August 17Partly cloudy skies with medium and high cloud, and the chance of thundery showers in the mountains from the morning onwards, spreading to other mountain ranges through the afternoon. Low cloud lingers along the Atlantic coast and western Mediterranean. Heat warnings are in force across most of the region, though Cádiz at 29°C and Huelva at 30°C are the coolest, both carrying storm warnings alongside Málaga. Elsewhere, temperatures sit in the high thirties. Winds are light and variable, with moderate easterlies and occasional strong gusts along the Almería coast.
Tuesday August 18
Andalucía temperatures, Tuesday August 18A calmer day, with partly cloudy to clear skies and intervals of low cloud along the coast. Heat warnings remain for Córdoba, Granada, Jaén and Seville, where temperatures stay stubbornly high. Minimums ease slightly in the western half of the region, while maximums change little on the Atlantic side but rise elsewhere, dipping slightly in western Almería. Winds stay light and variable throughout. It's still very warm, but there's a sense that the worst may be almost behind us.
Wednesday August 19
Andalucía temperatures, Wednesday August 19The change arrives. Skies turn cloudier from west to east through the morning, with occasional light rain spreading across the region. Low cloud covers the Atlantic coast, and temperatures fall noticeably inland, with the afternoon highs dropping significantly in many areas. The Mediterranean coast sees little change or locally higher maximums, but for Tarifa and the Atlantic-facing provinces it feels markedly fresher. Winds turn light to moderate westerly, a notable shift after weeks of easterlies.
Thursday August 20
Andalucía temperatures, Thursday August 20Cloud and the chance of light rain continue, most likely on the Atlantic side. Temperatures keep falling in the eastern half of the region, while holding broadly steady elsewhere, with some spots seeing slightly higher maximums. Winds remain light to moderate westerly, turning moderate with occasional strong gusts along the Mediterranean coast. A considerably cooler feel for Almería and Granada compared to just a few days ago.
It won't feel like autumn just yet, but after the punishing weeks of heat this summer, a bit of cloud and a westerly breeze will come as a genuine relief to most.
