Andalucia Today
Beware the heat this weekend! Alicante weather forecast August 14-17
Saturday is likely to be the hottest day, with an orange warning meaning significant risk in the north of the province
The heat alert for Saturday
The warning for high temperatures returns to Alicante province, after only a couple of days’ relief, starting today, Thursday, and continuing every day, provisionally until Monday, according to state meteorology agency Aemet.
Thursday, August 14
Thursday's high temperatures warning
Today there is a yellow heat alert from 12pm until 8pm, but predominantly affecting the south of the province, up the coast as far as Albir and inland as far as Novelda. Orihuela city is likely to be the hottest area, getting up to 37ºC.
The skies should remain mostly clear, with some cloud accumulating inland later, and light variable breezes, predominantly from the east in the afternoon.
Friday, August 15
Temperatures should peak at about 3pm
The heat alert affects the same times on Friday, but this time affects the north of the province too, only leaving out an area far inland encompassing Alcoy, Jijona and Villena, and across the border into the north of the Region of Murcia.
The significantly high temperatures should be similar to Thursday, or about 1ºC hotter.
The skies will also be relatively unchanged and the light breezes will be predominantly from the south east in the central hours of the day, so it should feel slightly warmer.
Saturday, August 16th
Maximum and minimum temperatures for Saturday
There will be no escape from the heat on Saturday, when the alert runs from 1pm until 9pm inland and in the south of the province, but there is a more severe orange warning for the north from 12pm until 8pm.
Even coastal resorts like Torrevieja will probably hit 35ºC, with Denia up to 38ºC and Orihuela city a scorching 42ªC.
The hot nights are predicted to continue, with minimum temperatures remaining in the mid 20s, or even up to a torrid 26ºC in Benidorm.
The skies will be mostly clear again with only light breezes, which may occasionally get stronger along the coast.
Sunday, August 17
Sunday's highs and lows
Although Sunday is too far ahead for an official warning to be issued yet, predicted temperatures are more or less the same in most areas, but slightly lower on the coast and 2-3ºC cooler in Denia and Jávea.
The clear skies and light breezes are expected to be similar to those on Friday.
Monday is also still expected to be very hot, but not quite as extreme as the previous two days.
