ARCHIVED - Book tickets for worldwide blockbuster musicals in Madrid with Taquilla
The Lion King at the Teatro Lope de Vega in Madrid
The Lion King, Ghost the Musical, Grease and many more great nights out in the Spanish capital
The city of Madrid is chock-a-block with music, dance and theatre events, and the list of world-famous musicals being performed on the stages of Spain’s capital continues to grow, boosting still further its cultural life and its reputation for the very best in entertainment. And as the musical scene of Madrid continues to mushroom, the city is more and more becoming one of the great hubs of European and world theatre.
The theatres on the Gran Vía and elsewhere in the city regularly raise the curtain on new productions of all kinds, including jazz and classical concerts, children’s shows and a rich abundance of alternative theatre, but the great musicals still remain the starts of the show. Over a dozen of them are in production in 2022 and there’s bound to be something for everyone’s taste: these are just a few of those for which tickets are now on sale…
GHOST, THE MUSICAL
For anyone who enjoys a true love story, there is no doubt this is the musical for you. Romantic, thought-provoking and fun, Ghost The Musical brings to the stage the tale of Sam Wheat and Molly Jensen which caught our imagination in the 90s, with a soundtrack including both old favourites and brand new numbers. The cast this season includes Spanish megastar David Bustamante and the mind-blowing special effects will make you feel as though you’re part of the story yourself!

EL REY LEÓN (THE LION KING)
The leading musical in Madrid has now been on stage for over a decade, and among the millions to have enjoyed the show are many who have repeated the experience. The “musical of all musicals” features an all-star cast and the soundtrack, of course, is unmatched, bringing to life the story of Simba, Mufasa, Sarabi and the others for all the family.
A CHORUS LINE
A Chorus Line, co-directed and co-produced by Antonio Banderas, is one of the most eagerly awaited additions to the Madrid musical scene this season, reviving the original Broadway smash hit. That production was on stage for no less than 15 years and won 9 prestigious Tony awards as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1976.
The plot concerns 17 young dancers who are hoping to land a role in a musical, but in order to fulfil their ambition they have to show not only their talent but also their strength of character.
GREASE, THE MUSICAL
It seems incredible but it is now 50 years since the original musical of Grease premiered in Chicago, and to mark the anniversary one of the best-known productions in pop culture is back on stage in Spain – yes, Grease is back! Danny, Sandy and all their friends embark once again on a journey to discover love, cars and conflict – don’t miss it,
MATILDA
This musical has yet to premiere but it is expected to be one of the major successes of the latest season, bringing to the stage one of the most magical, mist enchanting stories of recent years: Matilda! Inspired by the books of Roald Dahl, it tells the story of a precocious little girl who is misunderstood and ignored by her family but finds fulfilment in the world of books.
However, she soon finds out that not only is the bright, she also has the power of telekinesis… how will this change her life???
