Spain’s second summer heatwave is set to stick around a bit longer and the Region of Murcia looks likely to bear the brunt this coming bank holiday weekend. Dozens of towns have been issued with orange heat alerts for Saturday, which represent a significant risk to health and wellbeing, while more still are under yellow warnings.

 

Partly cloudy to clear skies are forecast on Thursday and the temperatures remain similar to the rest of the week. A little relief will be offered by breezes, which should be moderately strong in the afternoon.

 

A yellow alert for high temperatures has been activated in the Vega del Segura between 1pm and 9pm.

 

Friday will offer up brilliant sunshine and cloudless skies, with the mercury hovering between 35ºC and 39ºC. Easterly winds will feel blustery at times in coastal areas.

 

The yellow heat alert remains in place in the Vega del Segura.

 

Temperatures will shoot up on Saturday, especially inland, and orange extreme temperature warnings have been activated from lunch time in the north of the Region, including Jumilla and Yecla. The Vega del Segura alert has also been ramped up to orange, while yellow warnings are in place in Lorca and Águilas.

 

While moderately strong breezes are again forecast on Sunday, they’ll do little to alleviate the searing heat, which is tipped to reach a scorching 40ºC in Caravaca and Yecla and an unbearable 45ºC in central Murcia.
