Bullfighting is having a resurgence in Málaga… and the Germans are leading the charge
A new Immersive Bullfighting Experience Centre in the La Malagueta bullring is drawing thousands of visitors, many from Germany and the UK
Bullfighting may be a traditional art in Spain, but in Málaga it is currently the foreign visitors who are most curious to learn more. The newly opened Immersive Bullfighting Experience Center (CEIT) inside the La Malagueta bullring has received 65,882 visitors in its first year, with Germans at the top of the list and Spaniards making up only a small minority.Data presented by the president of the Málaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, show that German nationals account for 23.9% of the total, roughly 15,700 visits. They are followed by visitors from the United Kingdom with 14.4% (about 9,500), Italy with 12%, Poland with 11.8% and the Netherlands with 9.2%. Spanish visitors, by contrast, represent only 4.2% of the total, or around 2,770 people.

Salado said the venue has become “a benchmark for all bullfighting enthusiasts and anyone who wants to learn more about the history of this art,” and stressed that it “perfectly combines a commitment to the most modern technologies with respect for tradition.” The CEIT has already established itself as a leading tourist and cultural product in the province, with demand rising especially among European tourists.
Inside, visitors can walk through recreations of spaces such as the infirmary and the corrals, complete with sound, visual and even olfactory effects. There is also a virtual bullfighting simulation, six 3D stations and an audio tour, all designed to make the experience interactive and memorable. The private guided tours are particularly popular, as they allow guests to explore the history and details of both bullfighting and the La Malagueta bullring in more depth.
In its first year, the venue averaged about 5,490 visitors per month, and early 2026 figures are already strong, with 6,591 visits recorded in February. To mark the 150th anniversary of the bullring, residents of the province of Málaga are being offered a 50% discount on tickets until Wednesday June 11, 2027, a move that underlines how the Immersive Bullfighting Experience Centre is being treated as a key piece of Málaga’s cultural and tourist landscape.
