ARCHIVED - Cartagena quadruples charging points for electric vehicles
The Murcian municipality will invest 20,000 euros in the next four years
The city council of Cartagena plans to quadruple the number of charging points for electric vehicles in 2022 in another push to encourage drivers to switch to more eco-friendly and sustainable vehicles as part of Spain’s climate change plan. More and more motorists are opting for these green vehicles as fuel prices across Europe look set to continue increasing well into next year.
To this end, Cartagena intends to invest 20,000 euros in the installation and maintenance of the charging points over the next four years, or 500 euros per year per machine.
The new fixtures will be added to the existing free charging zones located at the Plaza Puertas de San Jose, the Casa de la Juventud and in the La Gola de la Manga car park. With the additional investment, charging points will soon be located in seven different districts of the port city, although a total of 33 different areas have already been proposed.
Both fast and semi-fast chargers will be installed and two parking spaces will be included at each of the recharging points. Payment can be made through pre-pay cards issued by the management company, by credit card or online.
The additional charging points have been welcomed by Cartagena’s councillors for Sustainable City and Contracting, who consider the promotion of electric vehicles to be one of the most important greenhouse gas mitigation actions.
