ARCHIVED - Daily Covid cases above the 7-day average in Valencia region: Alicante Covid update April 28
225 new cases in the region of Valencia and 57 in the province of Alicante
The Valencian health authorities have administered a total of 1,574,074 doses of the various coronavirus vaccines to date. By province; 185,716 in Castellón, 577,998 in Alicante and 810,360 in Valencia. 411,342 people have now been given complete immunization (two doses for Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca and the single dose of Janssen).
The official update published on April 28 by the regional government of the Valencia region (Comunidad Valenciana covering the provinces of Alicante, Castellón and Valencia) reports 225 new coronavirus cases in the three provinces of the region of Valencia, and 57 in the province of Alicante. These new figures are slightly above the 7-day averages in the region and in Alicante: 186.42 and 49.57, respectively, highlighting the continued slow increase in the number of new cases during the last week.
The number of people hospitalized in Alicante’s hospitals, however, is still slowly declining and the figure currently stands at 69 Covid patients, 18 of whom are in intensive care.
Wednesday’s official update also reported 5 Covid-related deaths in the region, of which 1 was in the province of Alicante, where the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic last March is 2,779.
The cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 residents in the past 14 days in the Comunidad Valenciana has risen to 44.17, (having climbed from a low of 26 just after the Easter break) while the national incidence rate has dropped to 230.27.
The region of Valencia has the lowest incidence rate in Spain, followed by the Balearics (58.21) and the Region of Murcia (70.8), while the highest rate is in the Basque Country (485.39), so although there has been a slight increase in the accumulated incidence rate and numbers of new cases, the region is still the best-performing region in the country, a situation the regional government hopes to maintain, having permitted the later opening of bars and restaurants across the region from this week.
