Escaping the heat: The towns in Andalusia where heatwaves do not exist
The temperature almost never exceeds 30ºC in these four Andalucía municipalities
Plaza de Villaluenga del Rosario
While much of Spain sizzles under the scorching sun during summer heatwaves, there are a few hidden gems in Andalucía where temperatures rarely exceed 30ºC. These towns offer a refreshing escape from the stifling heat, providing more temperate conditions that make them ‘climatic survivors’ during those sweltering summer months.
Trevélez: Granada
Trevélez, nestled in the province of Granada, earns the title of the coolest town in all of Andalucía. At an altitude of 1,476 metres above sea levels, Trevélez gets daytime highs of just 20ºC and night-time lows dipping to a refreshing 12ºC, providing the perfect refuge from the intense Andalusian heat.
While Granada typically bakes under 40ºC temperatures, Trevélez offers a welcome respite from the scorching sun.
Villaluenga del Rosario: Cádiz
Villaluenga del Rosario, located in Cádiz, is another of Andalucía’s so-called climatic refuges. Here, maximum temperatures rarely surpass 30ºC, and night-time lows gently settle around 17ºC.
Aside from its pleasant climate, this charming town is also renowned for its delicious cheeses, offering a tasty treat to enjoy in the cool evening breeze.
Serón: Almería
Almería, known for its scorching temperatures, has an unexpected oasis in the town of Serón. Here, summer days fluctuate between a pleasant 16ºC and 29ºC.
Even during heatwaves, the thermal sensation, or real feel temperature, remains lower due to a cooling breeze that provides a welcome escape from the oppressive Andalusian heat.
Ronda: Malaga
Perched 700 metres above Málaga, Ronda offers slightly warmer days but still provides a comfortable 17ºC in the evenings.
This well-known municipality boasts a unique location in a deep gorge, making it a popular destination for those seeking both scenery and a break from the heat.
If you're planning a trip to Andalucía and want to avoid the heat, consider these ‘cold’ spots that offer a refreshing change of pace during the summer months. They promise a delightful blend of culture, cuisine and comfortable temperatures.
