Festivos this year: See all the regional holidays in Murcia for 2024
See the bank holidays (‘festivos’) agreed for the Region of Murcia in 2024
The Official State Gazette (BOE) of Spain has published the legally binding festivos and public bank holidays for the country for the year 2024.
There will be 12 national holidays, of which 9 will be celebrated jointly across the whole country, while others are decided by each autonomous community or municipality.
Autonomous communities may move national holidays that fall on a Sunday to the following Monday, so Monday December 9, 2024 will be a public holiday in the Region of Murcia even though the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is actually on December 8.
Tuesday March 19, which is the Feast of San José and Father’s Day in Spain, will only be celebrated in Murcia and Valencia. In 2022, the decision to make San José a working day in Murcia was controversial, despite the fact that June 9, the Regional Day of Murcia, was given as a day off instead.
In 2024, the Day of the Region of Murcia falls on a Sunday, and the regional government has decided not to move it to the following Monday or another day.
These are the national holidays in Murcia 2024
- Monday January 1: New Year
- Saturday January 6: Feast of the Epiphany
- Tuesday March 19: San José/Spanish Fathers’ Day
- Thursday March 28: Maundy Thursday (Easter)
- Friday March 29: Holy Friday (Easter)
- Wednesday May 1: International Workers’ Day/May Day/Labor Day
- Thursday August 15: Feast of the Assumption
- Saturday October 12: Spain Day
- Friday November 1: Day of All the Saints
- Friday December 6: Spanish Constitution Day
- Monday December 9: Feast of the Immaculate Conception
- Wednesday December 25: Christmas Day
Long weekends (‘Puentes’)
With this calendar, people in Murcia will have four long weekends (and some five) in 2024, thanks to the fact that several public holidays fall on Fridays or Mondays: Monday January 1, Maundy Thursday on March 28, Friday November 1 and Friday December 6. For those who can take a day off work, they may also be able to get an extra ‘puente’ in August, given that the celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin (August 15) will be on a Thursday.
