ARCHIVED - Four mass vaccination centres across the Valencia region help to boost vaccination rate this week
The centres are located in Valencia, Alicante, Elche and Castellón
On Monday (April 19), the Comunidad Valenciana began mass vaccination in 4 major centres across the three provinces in order to administer around two million vaccines, accounting for nearly 45 per cent of the population of the region.
As well as these four major centres there are 18 larger vaccination points set up to vaccinate residents of the larger population centres, covering 274 municipalities and a further 48 vacination points to cover the remaining 240 municipalities.
The new centres are the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias in Valencia, the Ciudad de la Luz in Alicante, the Alicante Fair Institution in Elche and the Auditorio y Palacio de Congresos in Castellón.
Without taking into account the health centres, the mass vaccination points will have the capacity to vaccinate around 4,000 people an hour, thanks to the work of close to 1,000 medical staff.
This week 175,000 doses of Pfizer have been sent to the region, and this level of vaccines should theoretically be maintained for the next few weeks, providing Pfizer continues to deliver as scheduled. At the moment, these are being administered to those aged over 70 as a first dose and those aged over 80 are being given their second dose.
In addition, doses of Moderna and AstraZeneca are also being delivered for the 60-69 age group, and these may be joined by Janssen vaccines after the verdict of the EMA is published on Tuesday.
The regional ministry of Health has issued a reminder to arrive at the scheduled appointment time, or even a few minutes before, to ensure that the vaccination process goes ahead as planned.
Appointment details are sent via a text message to those entitled to a vaccine, hence the importance of providing the health authorities with an up-to-date phone number and ensuring that details held at health centres are up-to-date.
