ARCHIVED - Free guided tours of Aguilas during September
The municipality of Águilas, in Murcia, has planned four weekend tours of important natural and historic sites in the area
The Tourism department of the municipality of Águilas is offering a series of guided tours throughout the month of September.
These guided walks, which are completely free, take place both in the town and in the surrounding natural areas, including a trip through the newly opened Águilas Carnival Museum.
The tours scheduled for September are:
-Sunday, September 5, 9.30h: “Marina de Cope” route
Duration: two and a half hours
Leaves from: El Pocico Restaurant
This route includes the Cabo Cope regional park and the Puntas del Calnegre, allowing participants to enjoy the natural scenery on offer, as well as walking through nesting areas for different bird species, Roman remains, a crypto-wetland located on the Saladar beach and even a thermal water spring.
Comfortable clothing and footwear, a hat, water and sun cream are recommended for this tour.
-Saturday, September 11, 10.00h: Historic Centre tour

This tour takes participants through the port and Plaza de España and past important monuments and buildings, such as the Ícaro (carnival monument), Ferrocarril monument, Archaeological Museum and San José Church, as well as the newly opened Águilas Carnival Museum.
Águilas is one of the most historic towns on the Costa Cálida and this guided tour will allow participants to better understand the rich history of Águilas as well as learning more about the famous Carnival hosted by the municipality every year.
-Saturday, September 18, 10.00h: "Mr Gilman and El Hornillo" tour

This tour allows participants to experience the history of the traders and industrialists who played such an important role in the economy of Águilas in the second half of the 19th century and the first 30 years of the 20th, among them Gustavo Gillman. The route includes the Monument to the Railway, the bridge over the Rambla de las Culebras, the Sendero del Hornillo, the museum which has been created in the railway tunnel, the Embarcadero del Hornillo loading jetty and the railway station.
-Sunday, September 26, 10.00h: “Four Coves” route

The ‘Four Coves’ tour visits the protected natural area of Cuatro Calas, which is named as a Place of Community Interest in the European Commission’s Red Natura 2000, to enjoy the natural scenery and cultural elements on offer.
