ARCHIVED - Hotels in Alicante foresee promising August with reservations up 25 per cent
Occupancy levels "could reach 80 per cent" in hotels on the coast of Valencia region's three provinces, including Alicante
Hotels on the coast of the Valencia region are forecast to reach average occupancy levels of 65.8 per cent this month, up 26.5 per cent on August 2020, according to the Summer Season Occupancy Survey carried out this week by Turisme Comunidad Valenciana.
Surveying a selection of coastal hotels in the region, the study found that Alicante province expects to reach average occupancy levels of 68.7 per cent (65 per cent in Benidorm), 56 per cent in the province of Valencia, and 73.6 per cent in Castellon.
And according to the regional secretary of tourism, Francesc Colomer, everything seems to indicate that, "if the health situation allows it", the figure could reach 80 per cent in some coastal towns and cities "with last minute reservations".
The region's Department of Tourism is currently working with establishments to increase the availability of hotels since "one out of every four tourist accommodation sites are still closed". However, this does mean that 75 per cent of establishments are open to guests.
"The international situation continues to be complex and it has been national tourism that has compensated for that shortfall", explains Colomer.
In other types of accommodation, campsites foresee an occupancy of 90 pèr cent, and chalets and villas expect 75 per cent, representing a year-on-year growth of 30 and 35 per cent respectively.
Meanwhile, tourist apartments across the region are expected to reach 75.7 per cent occupancy this month, 23 per cent more than in August 2020.
A breakdown of provinces shows 77.28 per cent of apartments in Alicante, excluding Benidorm, could be occupied in August, which is up 21.6 per cent on last year, with an occupancy rate of 50 per cent in the popular resort of Benidorm, up five per cent on 2020.
The Summer Season Occupancy Survey 2021 has also revealed that the average occupancy of hotels in the region last month stands at 66.6 per cent - 25.6 per cent higher than the same month last year.
"July was been a dynamic month in a year of transition and gradual recovery, and profitability in the region", adds Colomer.
