ARCHIVED - Incidence rate slowly rising in Alicante province and Valencia region: Alicante Covid update April 20
The incidence rate in the region of Valencia has now risen to over 40 according to the latest report
The official bulletin posted by the regional government on Tuesday (April 20) reports 106 new coronavirus cases in the region of Valencia, of which 43 are in the province of Alicante, showing a rise from Monday’s figures, but still lower than last week’s 7-day average of around 150.
The current 7-day average of daily coronavirus cases in the province of Alicante is 48.28, including the 43 new cases reported in the latest official update, a figure which is slowly increasing despite the vaccine roll-out. The number of Covid patients in the province’s hospitals is currently 87, of whom 23 are in intensive care.
In addition, 6 more covid-related deaths were reported in the province while the total number of deaths in the Comunidad Valenciana was 8, according to Tuesday’s update.
Although the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 residents in the past 14 days in the region of Valencia is still the lowest in the country, the incidence rate has been increasing steadily for the past few weeks and now stands at 40.06, nearing the medium risk zone one again, defined by the government as an incidence rate of between 50 and 150.
Furthermore, the national incidence rate is increasing rapidly and has jumped from 196.2 to 230.95 in just one week. The Spanish regions with the highest rates are the Basque Country (429.59), Navarra (426.35) and Madrid (403.74).
The Valencian Community has administered a total of 1,319,7077 doses of the coronavirus vaccine. By provinces this breaks down to 154,094 in Castellón, 479,196 in Alicante and 686,417 in Valencia. 316,968 people have received two doses.
On Tuesday the national government announced that it would not be extending the time period between vaccines in order to give some degree of protection to a larger number of people at a faster rate, but would instead maintain the current policy of completing the vaccination within the recommended timescale.
