July 25 Jubilee Year ends in Cehegín

The celebrations of the 300^th anniversary of the arrival of the Virgen de las Maravillas draw to a close

It was 300 years ago that the town of Cehegín took delivery of the sculpture of its official patron, the Virgen de las Maravillas, a work which locals (and official press releases!) describe as “the most beautiful image created by Man”, and the holy Jubilee which has been held in commemoration officially comes to a close on Saturday 25^th July, a year after it began.

To mark the occasion a closing ceremony is being held at the entrance to the Convento de San Esteban, with local giving the heartfelt thanks for the arrival of the sculpture all the way from Naples to the north-west of Murcia.

Over the last twelve months thousands of people have knelt to pay homage to the Virgin, and all are invited to attend this ceremony, which begins at 21.30.
