ARCHIVED - Large drop in Covid cases reported on Monday: Alicante Covid update May 10
40 new cases in the three provinces of the Comunidad Valenciana and 14 in the province of Alicante
The official update posted on Monday (May 10) by the regional government of the Valencia region (covering the provinces of Alicante, Castellón and Valencia) reports a large drop in the number of new coronavirus cases reported, with just 40 new cases in the entire region of Valencia.
Of these, only 14 cases relate to the Alicante province, although the figures reported on a Monday do relate to Sunday, a day on which the numbers are generally lower than during the week.
Despite this latest low number, the 7-day average of new cases in the province of Alicante is still 43.42 a day.
According to the report published on Monday, there are 46 people hospitalized with Covid in the province of Alicante, of whom 10 are in intensive care.
In addition, there were seven covid-related deaths in the region of Valencia, of which six were in Alicante province, higher than the average across the last seven days (3.33).
The lower figures reported on Saturday (127), Sunday (119) and Monday (40) have resulted in a drop in the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 residents in the past 14 days in the region of Valencia, which has decreased from a figure of 40.54, reported on Friday (May 7) to the current figure of 35.61.
The region maintains its position as having the lowest rate in the country.
Meanwhile, the Basque Country (401.26), Madrid (302.67) and Aragón (290.81) still have extremely high cumulative incidence rates. However, the national rate is continuing to fall and now stands at 188.97, according to the latest report.
Vaccinations in the Valencia region:
The Valencian regional health authorities have administered a total of 1,995,239 doses of coronavirus vaccines to date, broken down by provinces as follows; 232,504 in Castellón, 731,900 in Alicante and 1,030,835 in Valencia.
641,508 people are now fully immunized, having been given two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca or a single dose of Janssen.
