ARCHIVED - Lowest number of cases in Alicante since last July: Alicante Covid update April 26
81 new cases in the region of Valencia and 11 in the province of Alicante
The official bulletin posted by the regional government on Monday (April 26) reports 81 new coronavirus cases in the region of Valencia, of which 11 are in the province of Alicante, following an increased number of cases reported this Saturday (April 24): 307 in the region of Valencia and 67 in Alicante.
The steep rise in cases reported on Saturday has been linked to a single outbreak of the virus in a school in Valencia, which caused around 100 positive Covid diagnoses.
However, the figure of 11 reported on Monday in the province of Alicante is the lowest number of daily cases since last July.
The number of Covid patients in the province’s hospitals is currently 79, of whom 21 are in intensive care. In addition, 3 more covid-related deaths were reported in the province while the total number of deaths in the Comunidad Valenciana was 7, according to Monday’s update.
Although the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 residents in the past 14 days in the region of Valencia is inching upwards at 41.94, it is still the lowest in the country. The Balearics (56.59) and the Region of Murcia (70.54) have the second and third lowest rates in Spain.
The national incidence rate continues to increase and is now 235.59. The Basque Country (527.18), Madrid (393.97) and Navarra (368.27) have the highest cumulative incidence rates in mainland Spain.
This week both the province of Alicante and the Region of Valencia aim to administer a record number of vaccinations, with the supply situation improving. Alicante has 90,000 vaccinations scheduled for the coming week.
