ARCHIVED - Mazarrón launches No Excuses campaign for dog owners
Mazarrón urges the owners of pooing pooches to clean up after their pets
The campaign aims to encourage people to pick up after their dogs and raise awareness among residents of the obligations they have as pet owners
The Department of Animal Welfare in the municipality of Mazarrón will kick off the campaign in earnest this Saturday, July 24 to coincide with World Dog Day (July 21) by installing two stands containing bag dispensers and reusable water bottles for washing away urine. From 10am people can find these two information points of the Department of Animal Welfare in the Plaza del Convento de Mazarrón and in the Paseo Marítimo de Puerto de Mazarrón.
The ‘No excuses’ campaign actually began a few months ago when posters appeared through the streets of the Mazarrón encouraging pet owners to clean up after their dogs, with messages such as ‘True luck is having a clean municipality.’
Councillor Silvia García acknowledged the fact that many residents already carry bottles of water mixed with vinegar to wash the footpaths after their dogs pee, and encouraged every pet owner to do the same, as well as using disposable bags to pick up their mess.
In addition to the new campaign, municipality officials have been carrying out a number of initiatives since 2019 such as supplying microchip readers to the Local Police and setting up kennels for feral cats.
