ARCHIVED - Murcia Covid update August 4: two more deaths recorded in the Region
Pressure on hospitals in the Region of Murcia is slightly reduced but the positivity rate of testing rises two points
For the second consecutive day, the Region of Murcia registered two Covid-related deaths on Tuesday, August 3, concerning a 72-year-old man from the municipality of Murcia and an 85-year-old woman from the Mar Menor. This brings the total number of fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,622.
The Ministry of Health reported 516 new cases of the virus in the Region yesterday, which represents an increase of 109 infections compared to those diagnosed the previous day.
Of the 516 new cases, 115 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 84 to Cartagena, 56 to Molina de Segura, 24 to Mazarrón, 15 to Lorca and 15 to San Pedro del Pinatar.
On Tuesday, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate stood at 473.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which represents a slight drop from the 475.6 of the previous day. The Region of Murcia still has one of the lowest rates in all of Spain, higher only than those in Castilla La Mancha and Asturias.
On the positive side, the number of active cases of Covid has fallen at last, albeit by only 31, resulting in 5,217 affected people yesterday. 5,063 of the patients are in home isolation with mild coronavirus symptoms.
Thankfully hospital pressure has reduced slightly in the last 24 hours, with 154 people hospitalised, 13 fewer than on Monday. Of these patients, 29 are being treated in the intensive care units, three fewer than the previous day.
On the other hand, in the last 24 hours, a total of 545 people have been discharged.
Finally, the SMS regional health service carried out 5,419 PCR and antigen tests during Tuesday, of which 9.5 per cent yielded a positive result. Thus, the positivity rate has increased by almost 2 points in just one day.
Vaccination update: Over the weekend, the number of people in the Region of Murcia to have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccines surpassed a million, representing around two thirds of the population. In the Region, a total of 1,718,079 vaccinations have been administered as of Sunday with 782,193 people now fully vaccinated in Murcia.
