ARCHIVED - Orihuela Costa offers free concert on May 1 in Orihuela Costa with local Symphonic Orchestra
The concert in Playa Flamenca was originally scheduled for April 17, but was postponed due to the weather conditions in the province of Alicante
On Saturday (May 1), the Symphonic Orchestra of Orihuela (OSO) will perform a concert in tribute to revered local poet, Miguel Hernández, on the promenade in Playa Flamenca, located in Orihuela Costa.
The famous poet was born in Orihuela in 1910 but died in prison in 1942 when he was only 31 years old, leaving behind an important collection of poems and theatrical scripts reflecting the political beliefs which cost him his life following the Spanish Civil War.
This event is included in the “Primavera Hernandiana” activities organized by the Culture department in Orihuela.
The concert will be performed by 20 musicians and is designed to evoke important moments in the poet’s life. During the concert, several of Miguel Hernández’s poems will be recited, such as “Vientos del Pueblo”, “Elegía”, “Niño Yuntero” and “Nanas de la cebolla”.
In addition, a piece entitled “Evocación” which was composed by the director of the OSO, Antonio Pujol, will feature compositions from Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Holst, Richard Meyer and Kalinnikov.
The concert will start at 7 pm on May 1 on the promenade and it will be the first time that the Symphonic Orchestra of Orihuela performs at an open-air venue. However, it is advisable to arrive a little before the starting time, as there will be strict occupancy control measures in place to abide by the anti-Covid restrictions.
Originally, the concert was to be held on April 17, but the poor weather conditions in the area forced the postponement of the event.
