Rain in the north and hot in the south: Spain weekend weather forecast August 28-31
Northern Spain is preparing for unsettled conditions while the heat rises in the south

As August draws to a close, Spain faces a mixed weekend of weather. Northern regions and the Balearic Islands will see unsettled skies, heavy downpours and storms, while most of the south and interior can expect calmer, sunnier conditions and a steady climb in temperatures.
Thursday August 28

Unstable conditions will dominate the north of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with cloudy skies, showers and storms, some with hail. The heaviest rain is forecast for Catalonia, Mallorca, Menorca and the Pyrenees, and there could also be intense downpours along the eastern Cantabrian coast and in parts of the Valencian Community.
Elsewhere, the weather will be more settled with clearer skies, although northern areas of the Canary Islands may see light, scattered showers. Mist and morning fog are likely in Galicia and other northern high ground. Dust haze may also affect the Balearics.
Temperatures will drop in much of the country, particularly in the north and interior, but values will rise on the eastern and south-eastern coasts. Parts of southern Spain may again exceed 35°C.
Friday August 29

An Atlantic front will cross the northern third of Spain, bringing rain to Galicia, the Cantabrian coast and the Pyrenees. In Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, storms and showers will persist, especially early in the day, with a risk of hail. Conditions should improve later, except in Girona, where heavy afternoon storms are possible.
The rest of the country will be mostly dry, with some high cloud in the south. The Canary Islands will continue with cloudy skies in the north and clearer weather further south.
Temperatures will rise in most of the peninsula but drop slightly in the Balearics and the south-east coast. Some southern and Mediterranean areas may again reach or pass 35°C. Winds will be variable, with strong gusts possible in the Cantabrian Sea and trade winds in the Canary Islands.
Saturday August 30

Saturday brings more stable conditions. Most of Spain will see sunshine and only light cloud, although fronts will once again reach Galicia and the Cantabrian coast. Brief showers are also possible in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
Temperatures will climb across much of the country, with highs above 35°C expected in the Guadalquivir valley and other southern areas. Warm nights are forecast in the Mediterranean and Andalucía, where minimums may not fall below 20°C.
Sunday August 31

The north will continue under Atlantic influence, with passing fronts bringing rain to Galicia, the Cantabrian coast, the Pyrenees and the upper Ebro. The rest of the peninsula will be largely sunny and dry, with only isolated showers possible in the south of the Iberian system.
Temperatures will rise in the Mediterranean but fall in the north, though southern regions such as Andalusia and the south-east are expected to see highs well above 35°C. Nights will remain warm in the Mediterranean and Guadalquivir valley.
Winds will be generally light to moderate, with stronger intervals in the Cantabrian region and trade winds continuing in the Canary Islands.
