ARCHIVED - Travelling exhibition from the Archaeological Museum of Alicante in Torrevieja until June
The “Guardianes de Piedra. Los castillos de Alicante” exhibit is centred around the historic fortifications in the province and will be located in the Sala Municipal Vistalegre.
The travelling exhibition “Guardianes de Piedra. Los castillos de Alicante” prepared by the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) has been inaugurated in Torrevieja, where it will remain until June. The exhibit reviews the legacy of important fortifications in the province of Alicante, including castles, coastal towers, forts and more.
The display is located in the Sala Municipal in Vistalegre and is centered around 5 routes which roughly follow the borders of the biggest areas in the province: the Castillos de la Frontera Interior in Vinalopó, the Castillos de la Montaña in Condado de Cocentaina, the Castillos de la Frontera del Miedo in Las Marinas (Marina Alta and Marina Baja), the Clau del Regne in Alicante and the Castillos de Tudemir in the Vega Baja area.
The exhibit includes a model of the province of Alicante, as well as information about 84 different historic buildings and fortifications, including details and historical references, that can be found in the province of Alicante, which has nearly 250 castles, fortifications, coastal towers, refuge towers, forts and artillery structures.
The travelling exhibit showcases the province’s rich history and the important role that these “stone guardians” have had in the protection of the territory.
The MARQ museum has designed the exhibition with state-of-the-art technology to try and capture the attention of visitors of all ages, with QR codes which can be used to listen to an audio guide: a new system which will be used for the first time in Torrevieja’s exhibit.
The exhibition is travelling around the region of Alicante.
