ARCHIVED - Two arrested in Alicante for robbing a man at gunpoint
The victim attempted to pursue the thieves but was hit in the head with the butt of a gun
Two men aged 20 and 29 have been arrested after they robbed another man at gunpoint.
The incident took place in the area of the castle of San Fernando in Alicante and the victim was left with a head injury after being hit with the weapon.
The police station received a phone call alerting them of a violent crime late on Sunday afternoon and when they arrived at the scene they found the 34-year-old victim laid on the floor and bleeding profusely from a head wound, which required three staples.
Despite heavy bleeding, the victim was able to relate what had happened to the police officers and he reported that he was sat on a bench when the two criminals approached and threatened him. One of the assailants pointed a gun at the victim’s head to force him to hand over his belongings.
The 34-year-old attempted to pursue the thieves, who ran in the direction of Calle Pintor Murillo, but he was hit in the head with the butt of the gun.
One of the victim’s family members who lives nearby heard the commotion and came outside to help; he was able to locate one of the men in a local bar and informed the police, who proceeded to arrest the man on sight.
Police officers located and detained the second man, who had a previous criminal record, the following day. Officers also found the gun used in the assault near the crime scene.
