ARCHIVED - Vega Baja region of Alicante registers 2.2 magnitude earthquake
Tremors were felt in the Cosa Blanca towns of Torrevieja and Rojales
A 2.2 magnitude earthquake was registered in the Vega Baja region of Alicante province during the early hours of Tuesday morning, November 22.
The tremor was recorded at 1.30am with the epicentre located at a depth of 4km to the east of Los Montesinos in an area known as El Chaparral and in the middle of Laguna de la Mata.
According to the National Geographic Institute (IGN), the seismic movement was felt in Ciudad Quesada, Rojales, with an intensity of II-III and in Torrevieja with an intensity of II.
The quake is the second higher than 1.5 of the Richter scale recorded in Los Montesinos this year, the previous one occurred on July 12. Alicante province as a whole has already recorded 54 earthquakes in 2022.
On the Costa del Sol, Malaga province was shaken by two earthqaukes 90 minutes apart on Saturday morning, Novdember 19, the strongest of which was magnitude 4.1.
