ARCHIVED - Weather: yellow weather warning for rain and thunderstorms in Alicante on Thursday
The heavy rain will be worse in the north of the province and will also affect some parts of Valencia and Castellón
After several weeks and, even months, of “rollercoaster” weather in the province of Alicante, with record breaking high temperatures in January and several episodes of red rain in February and March, there is now a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms on Thursday (April 22), according to the Regional Emergency Coordination Centre and state meteorological agency Aemet.
Heavy rain is also predicted in the interior north of the province of Valencia and in the south of Castellon.
The showers in Alicante are forecast to last for the rest of the week and will be more intense in the north of the province.
Aemet has warned of a maximum of 20mm of precipitation in the Alicante province.
This yellow warning does not activate pre-emergency procedures as the weather conditions don’t warrant high enough risk levels and no major flooding is expected on this occasion. However, the rain could cause problems in vulnerable areas prone to flooding, which will require preventative measures.
The general forecast is for cloudy skies, occasional bursts of sun, rain and storms.
Maximum temperatures of 15 for Alcoy, 18 for Alicante city, 17 for Dénia, 19 for Elche and 20 for Orihuela.
On Friday further light rains and overcast skies are forecast, although the storms and heavy downpours are predicted to move on, leaving overcast and warm weather. Maximums remain virtually unchanged on Friday.
