11 million euros to maintain the Alicante motorways for the next 3 years

Alicante’s roads are due to get a good lick of paint and some TLC, as the government has just plunged over 11 million euros into a motorway maintenance project.

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) in Spain has signed a contract for 11.56 million euros to carry out various maintenance and repair works on a full 85 kilometres of public roads in the province of Alicante, 65 kilometres of which are dual carriageways.

The initial duration of the contract is three years and includes such work as the renewal of painted road markings on the road surface.

The contract includes the possibility of an extension for a further two years and an additional exceptional extension of nine months, according to a government statement.

This contract is part of the Ministry’s conservation and operation programme, in order to maintain the safety of the road network and to make it “accessible in suitable conditions for all citizens”.

The roads which will be affected include several sections of the A-7, CV-80 and N-340 roads in Alicante.

Measures to improve energy efficiency have also been included in the plans, including the installation of battery recharging points for electric vehicles in the tunnel control centres, as well as the installation of LED screens and solar panels.

Mitma said that the new model of service contracts to carry out maintenance and operation operations on the State Road Network aims to offer a “comprehensive mobility service to users, improve the state of the road and network and optimise public resources”.
