Top beaches to visit in Alicante, Spain: Ultimate Costa Blanca South beach guide
Visit the top beaches on Spain’s Costa Blanca in Alicante
The Costa Blanca is a paradise strip of coastline on Spain’s eastern coast, in the Alicante province of Valencia. Encompassing such tourist hotspots as Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa, this Spanish coast has hundreds of the best quality beaches in the country.
The Costa Blanca – which in English means the ‘White Coast’ for its amazing sandy beaches – is one of the sunniest places in Europe, which makes it perfect for a beach getaway on the Mediterranean. And the southern edge of the Costa Blanca is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular coastlines you’ll find anywhere.
From the beaches of Pilar de la Horadada in the south, bordering on Murcia’s Costa Cálida, all the way up to Guardamar del Segura just above Torrevieja, the Costa Blanca South has something to suit all beach-lovers.
So what are the top coastal destinations to visit in Alicante?
These are all the best beaches in Alicante’s Costa Blanca South, from south to north:
Pilar de la Horadada
The coastline of the municipality of Pilar de la Horadada is only 5 kilometres long, but almost all of this distance is lined with fine white or light yellow sand, making it a beautiful spot for swimmer and sunbathers on the Mediterranean Sea.
Orihuela
The beaches of the Orihuela coast lie just past Bigastro and San Miguel de Salinas, and almost all of them have Blue Flags for their recognized high quality. Many expats moving to live in Spain choose to make their home on this Costa, and there are plenty of residential developments right near the beach, including La Dehesa de Campoamor, which is home to five golf courses.
Torrevieja
The increasingly popular beaches of the Torrevieja holiday resort have a little bit of something for everyone. Some of the beaches are close to the urban centre, with plenty of options for eating and shopping, while others are relatively unspoilt. Some are packed with summer holidaymakers whilst others are relatively sparsely populated, even in July and August. Which one is right for you?
Guardamar del Segura
The eight separate beaches of the Guardamar del Segura coast run along one single 11-kilometre-long stretch of fine white sand, with each beach blending seamlessly and gently into the next, making it the perfect coastline in Alicante for a long, LONG walk along the beach.
Alicante city
Further north of the Costa Blanca South beaches, you reach Alicante city, the provincial capital. Playa del Postiguet is Alicante City’s main beach, and is situated at the foot of the iconic Castillo de Santa Barbara castle. The beach is popular among both locals and tourists, and is well worth a visit if you’re in the area.
