Good weather and sorted paperwork mean Cartagena is ready to make the most of the holiday rush

What a difference a year makes. It was almost full summer in 2025 before the Cartagena beach bars ironed out the paperwork and finally started opening, but this year all of the chiringuitos look good to go before Easter.

The hospitality sector along the Cartagena coast is now heading into Holy Week in an unusually optimistic mood. Business owners have been able to get their documentation approved ahead of time for once, meaning that rather than scrambling to catch up while the season is already underway, most chiringuitos are in a position to hit the ground running from the start.

For a stretch of coastline that draws huge numbers of visitors from across the Region of Murcia and beyond during Easter, that's no small thing.

The weather is playing ball too, at least for now. Forecasts for the coming week are pointing towards relatively stable conditions, which is obviously the other big factor that determines how busy things get. The sector is keeping one eye on the sky as always, well aware that a change in the forecast can make a significant dent in footfall almost overnight.

If things go to plan, Easter 2026 could give the local economy a meaningful early-season boost.

Beaches, promenades and terraces are expected to be busy throughout Holy Week and with the bars and restaurants properly prepared this time around, the hope is that this year sets the tone for a strong season ahead.
