Eight drowning deaths in Spain in one tragic July weekend
Beaches, pools, rivers and reservoirs across Spain were all the scene of fatal incidents between Friday and Sunday

Eight people lost their lives in separate drowning incidents across Spain between Friday July 10 and Sunday July 12, with tragedies reported at beaches, swimming pools, a river and a reservoir.
The weekend's first death came on Friday morning, when a 75-year-old man was pulled unconscious from the water at Malvarrosa beach in Valencia and later pronounced dead despite attempts at CPR. T
hat same evening, a 47-year-old Senegalese man drowned while swimming at Prat d'En Forés-Regueral beach in Cambrils, Tarragona, after lifeguard hours had ended.
Saturday brought two further deaths. A 60-year-old man drowned in the pool at the Cala Tarida Beach Hotel in Sant Josep, Ibiza, after going down a water slide, with witnesses and paramedics unable to revive him despite using a defibrillator.
Separately, a man swimming near a bridge at O Bao beach in A Illa de Arousa, Pontevedra, grabbed onto a buoy and called for help. His wife jumped in to try to reach him, and although bystanders eventually got him to shore, resuscitation attempts failed.
Sunday proved the deadliest day. A 28-year-old man drowned in the San Juan reservoir on the border between Ávila and Madrid after going swimming with friends, with firefighters later recovering his body from a depth of three metres.
A 54-year-old French man died at Empuriabrava beach in Castelló d'Empúries, Girona, where a yellow flag had been flying at the time.
In Badalona, a 71-year-old woman managed to walk out of the water at Coco beach under her own steam but suffered a fatal cardiac arrest shortly after on the sand.
A swimmer also went missing in the Júcar River near Sumacàrcer in Valencia, with search teams later recovering his body.
Finally, a 39-year-old man drowned at Orio beach in Gipuzkoa and was pulled from the water by nearby surfers, though paramedics were unable to save him.
