Food, culture, music and more at the Degusta Cieza fair and peach blossoms
Last year, more than 60,000 people flocked to Cieza, Murcia, to witness the floración peach blossoms
La Vega Alta and Cieza are preparing to welcome visitors for the most enchanting time of the year. The ‘floración’, the annual blossoming of the peach, apricot and almond trees, is marked by a wide range of activities, including chef demonstrations, concerts, children's workshops, DJ sessions and food trucks.
The community has chosen "Va contigo" (It's with you) as the motto for this year's celebration, reflecting the inclusive and vibrant spirit of the event.
Visitors to Cieza during these early months of the year will have the opportunity to explore the fields in bloom, a spectacle that offers something for everyone, regardless of age or interest.
The region boasts a rich ethnographic, sporting and adventure offer, with a special highlight on the 'Degusta Cieza' fair, running from March 6 to 9. This four-day event will feature more than 100 gastronomic and cultural activities, making it a must-visit destination.
The Minister of Tourism, Carmen Conesa, highlighted “the nature-based tourism offer” represented by the flowering of the fields of Cieza, “filled with millions of flowers that adorn peach, plum and apricot trees to delight the senses and attract thousands of visitors every year.”
To take advantage of the expected influx of visitors, which topped 60,000 last year, the calendar has been packed with a huge programme of activities, “which rounds off the good reasons and the repertoire of attractions to visit the municipality of Cieza between 15 February and 16 March,” said the councillor.
The councillor highlighted the Community's 2022-2032 plan to develop alternative tourism attractions to the sun and beach, which aims to reduce seasonality and boost Cieza’s economy year-round.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the Region of Murcia attracts around 400,000 visitors annually through inland tourism.
“The mild climate and the varied natural heritage, the perception of security and the image of a destination far from overcrowding, together with the wide range of possibilities and rural and inland establishments, contribute to generating good growth prospects,” a regional spokesperson explained.
Guided tours of the flower fields, museums and historic monuments that are UNESCO heritage sites, national sporting events, concerts by great musicians and the Degusta Cieza fair are the main attractions of a programme, according to its promoters, “designed to exceed the number of visitors from the previous year.”
