German man shot in Marbella on Christmas Eve

The man was shot in the leg at the entrance of a pharmacy next to a shopping centre in the famed beach destination

There has been a shooting in Marbella, Malaga, where a man was shot in the leg on Christmas Eve outside a pharmacy. The incident occurred on the Avenida de las Naciones Unidas, located next to the Cristamar shopping centre. The victim was an Arab man of German nationality and the gunshot wounded him after it struck his leg.

The emergency services received several calls around 11.30am alerting them to the incident, which quickly caused panic among the many people who had seen the attack take place. The perpetrator fired several shots at the man before he left in his car and fled the scene.

The shooting happened in broad daylight on the street and following the attack several citizens who were in the area tried to take shelter, fleeing on foot in the confusion of the moment and scared for their own safety. Apparently, the victim was located inside the shopping centre, where he had tried to hide. He had left a trail of blood in his wake.

Following the phone calls to the police station after the attack a large-scale operation was established, involving the National Police and the Local Police. The ambulance and Guardia Civil were also involved in the operation that took the injured man to hospital to be treated for his wounds.

The attack which has involved firearms is not the first in the area and has led to the opening of an investigation by the National Police, which is trying to clarify the incident. Apparently, the officers have found .22 calibre bullets at the scene of the attempted assassination.
