Irish woman questioned over alleged sexual assault at Magaluf hotel spa

The tourist has been released on bail after a Swedish guest accused her of unwanted sexual contact

A married Irish holidaymaker has been arrested in Spain’s Magaluf on suspicion of sexually assaulting a Swedish man in a hotel spa.

The alleged incident took place around 6pm on Tuesday June 3 at an unnamed hotel in the popular Mallorcan resort. Police say the woman, who had been staying at the hotel with her husband, approached the man in the sauna and began chatting to him before later joining him in a nearby Turkish steam bath.

It was there that she is accused of touching the man’s genitals without his consent. According to sources, the Swedish guest asked her to stop and then reported the incident to hotel staff, who in turn contacted the police.

The woman, who has not been named, denied any wrongdoing when first questioned at the hotel. However, during a court hearing in Palma the following day, she is understood to have admitted to touching the man but insisted she had misunderstood the situation.

“She said she thought he was interested in her after they made small talk,” a police source explained. “She was very embarrassed and told the judge she regretted it.”

The same source clarified that the man had actually entered the steam bath after the woman was already inside, contrary to earlier reports that suggested she had followed him in.

An armed officer escorted the woman into court on Wednesday June 4. She was later released on bail and remains under judicial investigation. No formal charges have been filed at this stage, and she is free to return home. Her current whereabouts are unknown, though she is believed to still be on the island.

The woman is being represented by Palma-based lawyer, who confirmed he is seeking for the case to be dropped.

“I have asked for the case against my client to be discontinued on the basis that I do not consider that a crime has taken place,” he said on Thursday.

The identity of the hotel is being withheld to protect the alleged victim’s privacy.
