May 9-10 Europe Day celebrations in Torrevieja

The free event at the International Auditorium is one of the highlights of Torrevieja's social calendar

Torrevieja is pulling out all the stops for Europe Day this year, with a free gala at the International Auditorium on Saturday May 9 that's shaping up to be one of the best nights on the local calendar.

The event, organised by the city council's Department of the Presidency alongside the Department of International Residents, gets underway at 7pm and is free to attend, though you'll need an invitation, available to reserve and download at culturatorrevieja.com from Thursday April 30 until capacity is reached.

A free bus service will also be running, departing from Gregorio Marañón Avenue at 6.30pm and returning from the auditorium at the end of the evening.

Local group Sette Voci will open proceedings with a special set of iconic Eurovision songs before taking on the more solemn duty of performing the European Union Anthem as part of the official ceremony.

Then, closing out the night, Junior Eurovision Song Contest winner María Isabel takes to the stage to perform some of her best-loved songs, including her unforgettable "Antes muerta que sencilla."

The celebrations carry on into Sunday May 10 with the Europe Day 2026 Petanque Tournament, held between 9.45am and 4pm on the courts of the Rocajuna urbanisation.

Teams representing Spain, the United Kingdom, Sweden, France, Belgium and the rest of Europe will compete for the title, with Belgium arriving as defending champions after their 2025 victory and no doubt keen to hold on to it.

It's a weekend that captures exactly what makes Torrevieja such a special place to live, a city where people from right across Europe come together.
