ARCHIVED - New motorhome and campsite to be built in Teulada, Alicante
The new caravan parking site will have two swimming pools, a free camping area and a dozen bungalows
The town of Teulada in Alicante’s Marina Alta is to get a new, three-star campsite for motorhomes and bungalows.
The company Camp-Rafalet has applied to set up the new motorhome camping site and bungalow plot on Carretera de Sant Miquel next to Benimarco village, and has already been given the go-ahead to use nearly 50,000 square metres of undeveloped land that were once used to grow grapes but which have been in disuse for decades.
While this type of project needs extensive authorisation from the regional authorities in Valencia to guarantee compliance with environmental and health and safety requirements are met, Camp-Rafalet say they already sent the requisite documentation to the Generalitat “more than two years ago”.
The intention of this company, whose owners are from the nearby town of Benissa, is to set up a campsite that will house caravans, as well as a free camping area and a dozen bungalows.
The plot already has several buildings on it, one dating from 1980, 471 metres in length, and another from 1995, 281 metres in length, both of which would be renovated and repurposed for use in the campsite.
In addition, two swimming pools are planned, one occupying 182 square metres and the other around 30 square metres.
The project also includes toilets, a bar, restaurant, hairdresser, areas for playing petanque and golf, as well as a supermarket. A large part of the site, some 3,000 metres, will be reserved for internal roads and another area for free camping.
All this is complemented by a complete caravan servicing system, so that they can treat their water.
According to current plans, caravans and motorhomes will be able to recharge their drinking water up to 150 litres across a three-day stay, the same amount that will be allowed for the emptying of grey water (used for washing and which carry soap residues). Users will be able to discharge up to 20 litres of black water (waste water).
In terms of electricity, it will be possible to recharge batteries and consume up to 1,000 watts per stay.
Caravan and camping tourism is increasingly in demand on the Mediterranean coast, and in “Europe there are more than two million caravans, of which it is estimated that 400,000 visit Spain each year”.
