Peaceful antiracism march to take place in Murcia this evening

Organisers are calling for unity and inclusion under the slogan “Anti-racist Region of Murcia”

A peaceful antiracism march is scheduled to take place this evening, Monday July 21, in Murcia city. The demonstration, set to begin at 8pm, has been organised by a broad coalition of political parties, trade unions and social/cultural groups from across the Region of Murcia.

Marchers will set off from Avenida Alfonso X El Sabio and proceed to the Palacio de San Esteban, the seat of the regional government. The event is being held in response to recent incidents in the town of Torre Pacheco, which have raised concerns about racism and social division.

Organisers emphasise that the march will be “totally peaceful” and aims to promote unity, respect, and inclusion under the shared message of an “Anti-racist Region of Murcia”.

When asked at a press release for the launch of the demonstration about the current situation in Torre Pacheco, the Government delegate in the Region of Murcia, Mariola Guevara, noted that “for several days it has been totally calm, normal and peaceful”.

She added that law enforcement presence has recently been strengthened across the region, with 165 new Guardia Civil officers already deployed and a further 178 expected in September.

“We are responding to all the demands and needs that we perceive,” Guevara said, “to collaborate, to help and to provide a better service to citizens.”
