Brace yourselves for a full day of stormy weather and heavy rain as the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) places large parts of the Region of Murcia on alert this Thursday night for a weather pattern that will bring temperatures plummeting down.

 

For this Thursday July 24, Aemet has extended its weather warnings to run from 6am until midnight – basically all day long – alerting to the presence of rainfall of up to 20mm per hour in the northeast, central and southwest parts of the Region, while there could be up to 30mm of rainfall per hour in the northwest.

 

There is also an alert for the risk of thunderstorms at the same time and, from 6pm to midnight, strong winds all along the coast that could reach up to 50kmh and create waves 2-3 metres high.

 

 

The weather warnings for rain and storms continue through the early hours of Friday morning until 6am, when they will deactivate after 24 hours and a night of expected very heavy rainfall. The forecast for the rest of Friday is for it to slowly dry out and for the clouds to disperse as the day goes on.

 

 

After that, the forecast for the rest of the weekend is for dry, settled and sunny weather on Saturday and Sunday, but the storm will have served to bring temperatures down significantly.

 

 

Maximum temperatures will be a full 10 degrees lower than they were a week before, at least in central Murcia where it will barely reach up to 30ºC on Friday. While these temperatures will slowly begin to rise again over the course of the weekend, it will be noticeably chillier at nights, with minimum temperatures around 15-18ºC in the north and centre, and 19-22ºC on the coast.
