Water bills reduced in Los Alcázares to compensate for the lack of drinking water in October
The reductions will be reflected in the next water bills received by residents of Los Alcázares
As seems only right and fair, the Town Hall of Los Alcázares and the local water supply company (Aqualia) will be reducing their bills for the month of October to reflect the 10 days or so during which tap water was not drinkable following the flooding caused by Storm Alice.
Both the Town Hall and Aqualia will be seeking help in financing this move from the Mancomunidad de Canales del Taibilla, which is responsible for the water supply infrastructures that let the coast of the Mar Menor down following the heavy rain.
The decision reached is that no charge will be levied on residents in Los Alcázares for the days on which there was no drinking water supply in their homes, and the Mayor underlines that “The Town Hall was affected in exactly the same way. We all were: residents, businesses and public administrative bodies. This measure is more than a mere gesture, it is an act of justice towards the people who have once again shown their strength and solidarity.”
The discounts will be reflected automatically in the next water bills issued, with a reduction in the rates for water supply and sewage. However, the rate for water treatment (“depuración de aguas”) may still appear as it is managed by ESAMUR, an agency of the regional government and therefore out of the jurisdiction of the Town Hall.
In the meantime, a reminder that since 20th October there has been an information desk for those who were affected by the disruption (“Información para los Afectados”) in the Town Hall, enabling residents and businesses to present documentation claiming compensation for the costs and damage they suffered due to the water cuts.
All information gathered will be delivered directly to the Mancomunidad de Canales del Taibilla in order for compensation claims to be processed, and the deadline for taking advantage of this facility has been set at 15th December.
