Brits now account for almost half of all overnight stays in Benidorm
Reps are pushing the Costa Blanca resort at the World Travel Market (WTM) tourism fair in London this week
Benidorm is once again proving itself as a top destination for British tourists, with UK visitors now accounting for a staggering 45% of the city's overnight stays.
This key statistic is being highlighted at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London this week, a major tourism trade fair where reps from the Costa Blanca resort are showcasing its appeal to an international audience.
Between January and August of 2024 alone, more than 600,000 British travellers visited Benidorm, with numbers continuing to climb as the city enjoys an "exponential increase" in holidaymakers from the UK, according to Mayor Toni Pérez.
The British market has long been a cornerstone of Benidorm’s tourism, and Mr Pérez credits this surge to the city's upgraded offerings, emphasising that the destination now provides a "much higher quality" experience that resonates well with visitors.
At the London tourist fair, the Benidorm delegation has packed its schedule with more than 37 meetings with tour operators, travel agencies and other industry professionals. Their primary focus is to promote holiday packages for the summer and autumn of 2025, since seasonal bookings for the rest of 2024 and early 2025 are already nearly sold out.
One of the most popular events drawing British tourists to Benidorm is the famous Fancy Dress Party, set for November 14. According to Mr Pérez, demand for this annual event, one of the biggest costume parties in Europe, is so high that "99% of the bookings are already covered."
Given these impressive figures, the mayor predicts a bumper autumn/winter season, with 2024 set to be a record-breaking year for the city. But it’s not just about volume - he highlights that this year will also be remembered for improvements in tourist management and the professionalism of the Benidorm tourism industry.
